The perfect woman, the seven deadly sins, giants, a curious left hand, objects that come to life, a peculiar crime, a girl who waters flowers and, playing in the background… the sound of a radio! All this and much more to see at the 12th International Puppets Meeting of Montemor-o-Novo.
Between 22 May and 2 June, there’ll be theatre, music, films, workshops and talks all with a central theme: puppets. Companies and performers from Portugal, Spain, France, Germany and The Netherlands will be bringing you puppet shows, animation, music and street performances.
The events will take place at Cine-Teatro Curvo Semedo and Espaço do Tempo’s Black Box and, in this year’s edition, as in previous years, we’re taking unique performances and get togethers to the villages and its inhabitants.
Organised by cultural association Alma D’Arame, this international festival is already in its 12th edition and has been gaining popularity both in Portugal and in Europe thanks to its eclectic programme, which pulls out all the stops year after year.
The festival also includes several complementary educational and fun initiatives, such as Eric Sarria’s workshop : “An introduction to the world of Philippe Genty”, Puppet Talks, with illustrious keynote speakers, and a space for you to try your hand at creating your own designs in the “Paper Masks” workshops at the Escola São João de Deus high school.
